UStories Internship

General platform description:

Help us tell the real stories of real people on campus! UStories is looking for students of any major with an interest in journalism. Our human-interest-focused platform produces podcasts, written interviews, and videos that feature ordinary students, staff, and alumni from the campus community.

Interviewer:

Interviewers will be expected to reach out to students, faculty, alumni, and other campus community members. Interviewers are responsible for preparing an interview topic and questions, conducting an interview, and writing a story based on the quotes they’ve collected. Interviews are human-centered and should be focused on one subject.

Podcast Host:

We are looking for hosts for our podcasts: Long Stories Short, and New to the U! Podcast hosts will be expected to write episodes and help reach out to potential guests, as well as to record the episodes. Long Stories Short features interviews with subject matter experts about diverse topics from comic books to geology, while New to the U is a podcast focused on the stories of international students.

Video Editor:

We are looking for an experienced video editor to produce monthly 5-10 minute videos, and weekly 30-second shorts for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube shorts from these videos. These videos will be man-on-the-street style interviews, video podcasts, and other human-interest content.

Our video content can be found on our YouTube channel for reference.

Commitment: 5-10+ hours/week. Varies during the semester based on deadlines, group needs, and assignments.

Timeline: Applications will be reviewed as received.

 Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled at the University of Utah and making progress towards a degree
• Willingness to learn and adapt
• Able to commit to the overall hourly commitment per semester including team meetings and training
• Strong ability to participate in a team setting and independently
• Able to manage time appropriately
